This quote was by Patriots QB Tom Brady. This game opened at Pats -7 and is now down to Pats -5. It looks to me as the popular trend of the losing Superbowl team fails opening day of NFL has driven this line down the New England -5. For those who may not know, the last 12 Superbowl runner ups are 0-12 ATS in their season opener the following year.
With that being said I'm going to bite on this line. I do not understand all of the question marks surrounding the Pats. They have been winning year after year and they made it to the big dance with a defense that's young and needs time to mature. I understand they didn't look great during preseason, but sometimes you just can't make an accurate judgment on what you see especially when it doesn't count. The Pats have some of the most reliable offensive players in the league and I have to question how long the Titans can hold them in check. Let’s not forget the Titans are starting a young QB, they have struggled to defend the pass the past few years, and their offensive line is a big question mark. Let’s take the team that has provided consistency the last several years and trust that their offensive attack can cover these points.

The Texans seem to be everyone’s “sexy pick” this year to make a run at the Super Bowl. I am not sold on them just yet because I think they will feel the impacts on defense with the losses of Mario Williams and Demeco Ryans. They do however have a great matchup in week 1 as they get to face a rookie QB and a rookie head coach on their home field.
Not only is it extremely difficult for a rookie quarterback to play effectively in his first season, let alone his first professional game, it is also difficult for a team to adapt to a new head coach and offensive and defensive system right away, and this is something that I see the Dolphins struggling with the first half of the season. I never put too much stock in preseason performances but it can’t be overlooked how smooth the Texans offense looked and how comfortable Matt Schaub looked in the pocket. If he can stay healthy I am expecting big number from him throughout the season.
Take Houston to cover the 13 points at home, and if you are a fantasy football player every sign is pointing you to start every single one of the Texans impact players on offense.
